I have friends who are super excited about this. I bought it. Not out of any real enthusiasm for the game so much as an overwhelming lack of anything better to play. I figure the single player campaign should keep me amused at least for a couple of days. RTS games just aren't exciting. If it's not an MMO it's pretty much a given that I won't be playing it more than 2-3 days tops. Anyone actually excited about playing this?

From what I've read, it's Starcraft 1 with updated graphics, which is exactly what I was expecting. I'm not going to buy it. Hell, I'm not even going to download it.

I suck terribly at this game as I lost interest in SC1 even as a random once a year game like 7+ years ago. So after failing at multiplayer I am doing the campaigns to relearn the game and they are actually pretty decent at least in terms of story. The updated graphics are definitely a plus, running a game at 800X600 on a 30" monitor isn't exactly pretty lol. SC2 is gorgeous at 2560X1600.
Also, some things that have been added in based on popular SC1 tactics are pretty amusing. For instance it was pretty popular as terran to use supply depots to block off an area and force mobs to channel through a small path or mill about in front while getting pounded by ranged attacks. In SC2 you can do this without blocking in your own troops. Each supply depot has a switch to make it drop below ground level so your troops can walk over the top of it. It's pretty nice being able to use them as a gate instead of a wall.
The campaigns seem to have a few extras added in like research and the armory that let you purchase upgrades that you either have to manually upgrade each game or that don't even exist in multiplayer. Like all of my bunkers have a turret on top of them, my ghosts don't lose energy while cloaked, my medics heal for more, I have vespene gas extractors that mine automatically, I have a few extra units like these cats that ae the shit out of infantry, etc. There is some silly shit between each campaign that adds a bit of flavor to the story as well. You pick up a few random people as you go through the missions and some of them linger about your flagship/hangout so you can chat it up with them. You can also watch an ongoing extremely biased news program and a few random comercials that make fun of some RL products.
Overall the campaign is pretty fun so far. Of course I will be finished with it soon and probably be bored again lol. Hopefully someone will make some awesome TD maps or something for me to dick around with while bored. La de da.

i pretty much picked it up to play with my friends and for the campaign.
My roommate was always "omg omg omg"
and im like...dude...its SC 1.5 thats it,
im rather pissed that its 12gb of a game and theres only 1 campaign setting. kinda retarded when most of that information is fucking cinematics.

Haha, it's a definite step up from how it was in the first one, but yeah it is a bit underwhelming for a 12gb game.

I have been playing this quite a bit. The game-play is fantastic, very intense soo many options etc and there isn;t even an expansion out yet lol. BUT, yes someone already said it best above, the graphics are kinda SC 1.5.
Also, I have become a fan of the new matchmaking and ladders split into leagues ect, very nice job on this. The bonus pool that builds up over time is something I have fallen in love with as my available game time is not what it once was.

I like to consider myself way too cool for this nonsense. Playing emulated beta/alpha quality servers of old outdated games is way cooler.

Most definitely not going to PAX. That sounds like it would require me to go outside for something I am not getting paid for. F that!
Why are you so underwhelmed by Star Craft 2? Just because it's been overhyped? Or have you played other RTS that impressed you more? The game play and overall look and feel of SC2 are great, and the campaign mode has a pretty decent story and a bit of variety beyond the average RTS. I am not saying I was blown away but it certainly was a good experience.
YEAH.

I would go to PAX, but I'm far too broke. Trying to make money in Bakersfield is a bitch. I went from two jobs to no income pretty quickly here, haha.
