So yeah, I briefly joined the 'old' forums after lurking there for years. Oddly enough I realized I'd be a bit miffed if pker.org shut down
(as per morts post) So, while I'm no forum whore, I figured I could at least say hi.
Theres one thing I'd like to ask you guys. What are your 'pk' origins.
I think I found this site right around the time I was looking for something new after getting tired of text-based pk (muds), and I remember hearing loads about PvP, and thinking that was a pretty lame name for pk. So I found pker.org and thought, these people must be kindred spirit or something.
Probably noone has ever heard of them but i played such illustrious games as the great hunt, legends untold and shattered quest. That was where I gained my bloodthirst, and unfortunately all 3d pk after that has been a pale shadow of the thrill and skill those games offered.
Yeah, that makes me old, but thats not the poitn here!
So, where did you guys start?

I got my thirst in free UO shards. I was bad as all shit, but I figured out ways to kill people even though I sucked. One guy I lagged out by having like 30 animals and saying all attack, loot loot! Then there was the ol llama bomb. Wand of paralyze/flamestrike. I've always been competitive though, I believe I got that from sports. I found this place when searching for SWG crafting and found an auto-it script, woot woot.

I dicked around with a few MUDs back in the BBS days (mostly just silly shit like Xroads and MajorMUD) but didn't really get into any sort of newer PvP shit until a year or so after EQ released. UO released at kinda a shitty time for me as for some reason in my mid to late teens I was ignorning my computer for vagina. Originally started out playing EQ on a bluebie server with some RL work friends and while there was the excitement of training people and causing nerd rage in other ways, I never really knew what I was missing until another friend talked us into trying out a PvP server. Since then whatever PvP option/ruleset/whatever any mmo has I give it a whirl though honestly most MMOs seem to either have shit pvp or you have to wait til max level to really appreciate it (or at least so I have heard for games such as Lineage2 which put me to sleep long before I reach that point). Sad this.
Found this place when Shadowbane released. Mostly just lurking about. Ran into it again when it popped up on a search for something or another and for some reason stuck around. Awwww. Memories.
Gay sex.

UO is one game I wish I hadnt missed. At least judging by the way veterans speak of it... that and SWG.
And yeah the pvp-as-an-afterthought generally winds up shit. Dunno about lineage but I couldnt handle the absolute lack of consequence there was in AoC. Even with the pretty lights it just bores me. Someone killed me, whatever. I killed someone, whatever. EVE held my fascination longer than any mmo, but I know it is not for everyone. Really slow to get into, but it does pay off in the end.

I can't stand the whole, more time spent = more fun possible, thing. I play games to have fun, that's why they're called games. If I have to play a fuckton just to have fun, fuck that shit.

SWG was the first MMO that held my attention for more than 2 months. I played some UO, some shadowbane, a little bit of AC, but I just couldnt get into them. I got SWG on release day and it blew me away it was utterly wrecked with bugs, but it didnt matter to me. The experience was far beyond that of any other MMO I had played and was entirely different from any other game I had ever played. I loved the lack of set purpose and the openness of the world. I realize these were the same selling points for UO, but by the time I got to UO it had been mostly ruined by the Devs and was dominated by hardcore players. Because I got into SWG on day one, I never felt like I was playing catch-up and the fact that there were no set classes and no epic gear and because getting loot from mobs played such an insignificant role in the game, I felt like I could just experience all of the features the game had to offer without always having to worry about getting that new piece of gear or finishing the newest piece of content.

SWG was the shit. I remember spending almost a whole day walking around Tatooine with my friend just going from POI to POI. Before vehicles, when you had to walk, and it was vurrry slow.

SWG made for some interesting times for sure. Just a lot of little random social bullshit to be found early on in that game that you didn't typically have in MMOs. Like hanging out in the clinics healing wounds and such just bullshitting on my Doctor to raise skills. Or spending days in the cantina maxing musician and dancer with the countless other people doing the same just having a randomly amusing time. Having a house out in the middle of fucking nowhere that irritated the hell out of friends cuz they would have to run through swarms of mobs to get there. Spending time surveying for crazy minerals and such to make pimp doctor buffs. I think the thing that really sold this game to a lot of people was the fact that you had the joys of a sandbox game without the weird character complexity of some games. It was simplistic enough to just jump right into things but had enough depth to keep it somewhat interesting. *shrug*
