I was cruising around the internet and I remembered this Unreal Engine powered MMO in the works, I did a quick search on it and found out it was called Mortal Online.

Over the time that I hadn't checked the site they have made some things about the fundamentals of the game public. Check this stuff out:

Alpha Combat System: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/3579-al...stem-short.html

Seems pretty complex, but it seems to emphisize skill like crazy, which is awesome. And I couldn't supress my glee after seeing the line "...it’s comparable to old UO smile.gif"

And, the Flagging System: http://www.mortalonline.com/combat/flagging

All I have to say is FKN AWESOME! This is the exact system that I loved in UO, and brought me to loving PvP. They describe looting and pickpocketing from players too. FKN AWESOME!

What do you guys think? It is a fresh outlook for REAL PvP in my eyes from playing WoW for a while. I hate its cookie cutter feel! I wish I could quit WoW for a better PvP game, but there is nothing else!

I guess we needed another PK dream vaporware game now that Darkfall is supposedly getting released by the end of January.

Still, it's encouraging to see some MMOs in development going for a skill-based system instead of a level one. Levels have a great advantage when it comes to PnP gameplay, but when you get many people online, it just helps to segregate them. Also, it usually makes game devs spend thousands of man hours on content that will rapidly become obsolete because people will have just zoomed by it.

Did they steal their teaser footage from Darkfall? haha

The teaser also said Summer of this year? Srsly?! I hope they can pull something off. I am already dreading Darkfall.

Not really... Even if it is the best game it could possibly be... It is still going to fall well below what is an acceptable degree of sucking in a modern game... Even trying to downplay my interest in the game as much as possible I still stand to suffer a fairly painful disappointment... Like I am thinking it will make Dark and Light look like a great game...

DnL never promised anything close to this, and either way if you want to be as pessimistic as possible, Darkfall will still be light years ahead of any mmo on the carebear gay shit PvE market right now...

My skin has become so thick from empty promises and crappy MMOs, I really don't care if they make it or not. I'm just excited there's atleast something on the horizon that wants to get away from this DIKU MMO crap.

Darkfall? I don't know, it's fallen so far off of my radar due to it being so vapour that I forgot about it.

Having the most awesomest proposed PvP system in a virtually nonfunctional game doesn't really do anything for me. If this game is playable at release I will be impressed. It's only a couple more weeks right?! haha

I'm trying it right away because if it doesn't hold my interest I am most likely done with MMO's.

Since this is now a darkfall thread... Has there been any news on a release lately? I remember the Jan 22 number being batted around for a while... But looking at their site I don't see shit about release or a means of ordering the game in plain sight... And the 22nd is 2 weeks?! *shrug*

I STILL LOVE CRAFTIN!

If DF has a sweet crafting/resource system and it isn't just the same shit as almost every MMO has, then damn, I may move my empire there (from SWG where I'm building empires on 2 servers, AND WHAT!)

WW Do you see that posted anywhere recently? I remember seeing that as being the Euro release date which us lame Americans could join in on if we couldn't wait for an official US release to fully appreciate the fail. It's just that that is less than 2 weeks away and I see nothing new about it or where to buy it or how to be gay with men and more men.

Darkfall won't be released on store shelves. It's going to be download only.

This was announced a month or 2 ago and while I havent seen anything else in awhile to confirm it, 1/22 is still the official European release date. And being only 2 weeks away, they are kind of running out of time to delay it at this point. I have not yet decided whether I will be buying it to play on European servers or not. I dont want to get destroyed by lag or anything like that because of the distance, but I am also really looking forward to the release of this game. I guess I will decide in a few weeks.

And GC is correct, DFO is download only.

I will buy it anyway I think. Even if it sucks I am pretty much disinterested in playing any MMOs right now. I haven't logged on to one in a week or so. Nothing seems appealing.

When it comes to long term replayability it all boils down to community. Find a community that fits you, imo.
