No mention of PvP yet, but Bioware makes good RPGs, so this might be worth getting excited about when it gets nearer to release.

Pissed because they said that this will take the place of KOTOR 3,4,5 and beyond, not to mention pissed that there is no way in hell this will have real PvP for the same reason WoW doesn't/didn't at release.

This game will attract way too many people who are purely SW fanboys and who have never played an MMO and who will then immediately be turned off by open PvP. Not to mention this game will have an ungodly amount of instanced BS which is evident from the previews, which if anything indicates that future PvP elements will be instanced as well.

Hooray for another fanboy run cash cow and hurray for wasting a good company's time on this bullshit...

Yeah, there is a really good chance they will make this an extremely mainstream MMO, one of my main fears too.

In their actual public announcement they did say it would have PvP. Whether it's a core design principle is another question. They said the 4 pillars of their design were story, combat, exploration and character customization, so it will likely be an afterthought.

Edit: I just asked my gf who was liveblogging the event for Kotaku and she said very affirmatively it would have PvP because there is the conflict between Republic and Sith.

I mean thats better than tacked on PvP obv, but WoW "has" pvp and that is utter mainstream bullshit. The chances of OR having real pvp is slim to none imo.

Honestly I think this could potentially be a big plus for the MMO world if they stick to their guns on actual meaningful choices within the game and flesh out NPC interraction to something on par with their single player games. It may not be "omgz pvpz" but I would be just as interested in playing an MMO where my decisions affect how my character can interract with the world. No one has really done that yet.

Yeah, i think meaningful change in the world would be cool and if anyone can do it, its bioware, though I have no idea how that would actually be accomplished. As long as the PVP isn't terrible there is hope for this game based on its other features just because bioware doesn't suck ass.

I don't know if they'd be able to pull off significant changes to the world. However I could easily see them pulling off changing how the world reacts to your character. In essence it would be just a complex factioning system but really so far no one has pulled this off to where it seems like anything other than grinding *something* to get a whole group of people to like you. I have never really seen this done on a level where it changes individual NPCs reactions. Like say you tell the bugbear "Bob" to go fuck himself, bugbear Shirley on the other side of the world isn't going to hate you because you didn't say that to her and everyone knows Bob is a douche.

Lol, bugbear. You vanguard fagor lol. I remember when you took me around and killed some of those dudes.

I am very curious about what they will do with this game. I am not very familiar with BioWare to be honest so I am not sure what to expect. I like some features of SWG (resources and crafting anyone?)(open housing with vendors anyone?) but of course I agree with most that everyone should not be a Jedi and it should be hard to unlock the Jedi class.

I think a good way to limit Jedi is to have the crazy difficult process of unlocking it AND have a pay $2,000.00 to unlock your Jedi. This way, the company makes money off the losers, everyone who is a Jedi is automatically considered a loser (whether they paid or figured out how to unlock lullz), and there pretty much won't be that many Jedi.

I am not really a fan of the way SWG did the whole permadeath dealy. I mean I get it, it makes sense, but why do Jedi get permadeath and nobody else does?

Is it going to be classes or skill based? When was the last time you played a skill based game? Was AoC skill based? Skill based.....(one more for good measure)

I don't really wanna talk any more about it until they give us something to talk about, y'know. As I said before, we can only wait and see.

Scratch that last part.

Could you imagine being the first Jedi? I can....

You spawn in the Jedi Temple and there is some explanation. You are the first of your kind my friend. You're stuck in these few rooms and you just have to deal with it. The only thing you can do is play tons of mini games over and over until your skill raises, the first skill to raise? Tell em Yoda! Patience it is! There would be tutorials with like blue glowies talking to you about how you're the first in such a looong time and that you're going to have to be the leader of the Jedi and instill wisdom into your younglings. Shit, why not have your characters appearance scale with your skills? Why don't people pay me a bunch of money? I mean seriously.

I have never played any of the KOTOR games but I think they are heavily based on there being lots of Jedi unlike the time period of Galaxies where there are supposed to be very few.

Also, those dudes telling you how awesome you are can come from 2 perspectives, dark and light you know. So that the first dude is sooo goddamn confused about whether he is good or evil. I mean seriously that shit would be in tents.

If the first force sensitive guy gives up there could be a server message saying how he crumbled under the pressure and has sought out exile. Shit, after about half of the training there should be a stay or go prompt. If you go you could still choose to be light or dark but it would be difficult to tell if you're becoming good or bad because youre exiled on like degoba or some shit.

If you choose to go exile then the 2nd jedi will hear stories about how the other dude went to the dark side (even if he didn't) and that would fuck up his whole perception of the first Jedi, if he were to return ever. Set the shit up to be fucking crazy and dramatic, man.

Mven is correct, there are quite a few jedi in the Kotor games so having a bunch of them wouldnt be technically different from the universe at the time. But bonedeads system is much cooler. SWG with tons of jedi is gay, and I think Kotor will be too.

Here is an old article from 2007 on 1up talking about the "StreamBase" technology the game will be using (that the CIA likes). It also mentions they are planning to release in 2009.

Here we have an interview posted today from MTV games (WTF?!) with BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk. Greg basically says they don't know wtf they're even doing yet.

2009 Release? Methinks no.

Didnt they say something somewhere about a 2011 release? This sounds about right. I dont think they would have even bothered annoucing it yet, but there have been so many kotor mmo rumors for the past year, that they pretty much didnt see a reason any long to keep it a "secret".

That 1up article I posted from 2007 says they were planning a 2009 release heh.

The way I see it, you just shouldn't announce release dates until you're almost 100% friggin positive you can make it and that your game will be pretty by then. Gamers get so mad and stupid when a dev is like, err, we're pushing our release date back a few months. I can accept that because they're usually pressured into making a release date announcement by the same mob of people who will bash them for pushing it back.

Yeah, if they said 2009, i wouldnt believe it for a second. No way they wrap this thing up in a year, there arent any details on anything right now, so im thinking 2 more years minimum.
